ILLUMINATED DISSOLVED HUMANITY CORTEX
MANIFESTATIONS is an exhibition of works created by Dean Cercone while he was acting as a test subject in an experiment examining the neurological basis of creativity carried out by Tricia MacKenzie, PhD.

Dean Cercone has created thousands of works on myriad found surfaces, each one containing symbolic representations of dissolving humanities, and each surface conjuring a unique surround of vibration and chaotic harmonies. This dualistic practice provides a face for the shifting subconscious, illuminated in the present moment, shadowed by the past, achieving mental and visual balance amongst chaos. His paintings serve as a medium for allowing the ecstatic incomprehensible to seep from the subconscious into our conscious awareness.

Tricia Mackenzie, PhD, is a neurophysiologist and geneticist who uses brain recordings as a means to connect to ourselves and others. For this exhibition, she recorded from Dean’s cortex using an emotiv EEG device in order to determine which of dean’s cortical areas are involved in filtering visual experience into his creative practice.

The exhibition will be followed by a celebration of live music and libation in honor of the art/experiments commencing and the spaces official opening.
