Dean Cercone is a visionary painter, experimental folk musician, poet and illustrator amongst other art related talents and interests from rural Renfrew, Pennsylvania.

He currently lives and works as an artist full-time in Pittsburgh, Pa. Dean has been actively been displaying and performing in Pittsburgh since he was 12 years old. He has had a number of solo exhibitions at various Penn Avenue galleries and has participated in many group showings.

Dean paints figurative pieces on found objects that often depict scenes of people amongst obscure or abstract landscapes comforting one another. The content of these pieces are filled with raw and creative subconscious energy and reflect on maternal, social, and personal struggle while hinting at the awareness of an all-knowing calm. The making of these paintings involves many different mediums including fire.

He currently works in a warehouse studio effectively named “the WHEREHOUSE” on Penn Avenue along with five other artists. And stands as curator of the raw gallery space that is active during the first Friday art crawl. He curated a successful art exhibition series called, “the BLURRED EXHIBITIONS” every Friday in June and July of 2011 and is currently working on ideas for future large scale art events in support of outstanding local Pittsburgh artists.

Deans music has been described as lo-fi noise pop, outsider folk, freak folk amongst other things. Most projects are him playing multiple instruments through dreamy melodies singing his poems. He has played music with such acts as Black Dice, The DoDo’s, OLD TIME RELIJUN, Sunburned Hand of the Man and many others.

“His music is a subconscious swirl of melody, poetry and emotion. A possession from a source unknown. A wild archive of evolution in his music resides at his house in Renfrew. Hundreds of recordings that he has cataloged in chaotic chronology. He has released many things some being official releases others limited edition CD-r’s in Pittsburgh.”

Dean has been the art-director of the non-profit organization YOU=LOVE for over two years and has done many projects within such as screen-printing, graphic design and illustration.
